I vote to eradicate the "outside the top 100" rule. It's fun in concept but administratively it takes forever to check rankings (that change every week). Doc Todd picked Freddy Couples who was ranked 120th when he picked his team, but the rankings were just updated and the put Freddy C in 79th position. It also takes more time than it's worth to check who is in the tournament and also outside of the top on hundred. In other words, I saw Freddy Jacobsen ranked 104th. Sweet, I'll put him in...but he isn't playing. So should I check every player that I haven't heard of and see if he is outside of the top 100? Too much time. What D'ya think?
Happy Masters
And they're off. Lucky birthday present. Have you shot your age?
and better. didn't I pick tim clark?
Not sure. You filled in your picks. I can tell you that I picked him, but chickened out at the last moment switching him for the injury ridden Anthony Kim. Clark beat Tiger earlier this year and he's a good closer. He could be trouble if he sticks around.
NEXT WEEK.
5 PICKS
NO RESTRICTIONS
If you want to pick the top five golfers in the world, fine. If you want to pick all asians, fine. If you want to pick Bret Favre, A-Rod, D-Rodman, Rowdy Rowdy Piper, and Tonya Harding, fine (although you might want to rethink A-Rod).
Cool?
5 golfers each from a different continent?
In an effort to diversify the game, what if we did this?
5 picks, unrestricted.
6th pick. WILD CARD. This pick is a low ranking player and will count DOUBLE only for the person who wins it. Here is how it works.
My WILD CARD pick is David Toms (ranked 66th). He finishes tied for 40th and wins 33,000. But Dave DT SOLO picks Mark Wilson (ranked 81st) who also finishes tied for 40th and also wins 33,000. Because Mark Wilson is lower ranked, Dave DT SOLO is awarded 66,000 for his Mark Wilson pick. I do not get anything for David Toms.
This should up the ante for picks. Picking a low ranked player who doesn't make the cut doesn't win you anything, but picking a no name who wins the tourney could be a huge pay day. Someone could also pick a no name (ranked 60th) who wins the tourney, but because someone picked a 80th ranked player who makes the cut (even if they only win 16,000) the lower ranked player will be the only one to count. I think this could even affect the other five picks. You will have to carefully weigh potential gain with potential risk.
Player Rankings (2009 PGA TOUR OFFICIAL WORLD GOLF RANKINGS) will be determined at the start of the tourney (thurs morning). ***Note*** Rankings change often so sending picks wednesday night will be most accurate.
